TESLA Club, Fri, Sep 17th, 7pm : Book presentation by Bishop Maxim: Krinka Vidaković-Petrov, SERBIAN AMERICANS: History—Culture—Press
Serbian Americans. History. Culture. Press is a comprehensive study on the Serbian American community in the U.S.A. It offers a wealth of information gathered from various sources – memoirs, documents, church archives, letters, articles, stories, and newspapers published since the establishment of the earliest Serbian fraternal organization in San Francisco and the consecration of the first Serbian Orthodox church in Jackson in the 19th c. See how the immigrants organized, what their life was like in Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York, Detroit, Douglas, and so many other places across America, how they adapted to the American way of life, how they preserved their Serbian identity and values; what were the hardships they faced and the dreams they followed; how so many returned to participate in "the final liberation of Serbs from the Turks" in the First Balkan War and defend Serbdom in World War One. It is a book dedicated to Serbian Americans proud of their roots and their ancestors.
